No Right Turn on Red (NRTOR) is a known safety measure. While it will be very difficult to a city wide policy, we can advocate for NRTOR at intersections where we know it should be prohibited. Like on Ingersoll @ MLK, or 6th & Euclid.
P&Z meetings feature zoning requests (think office buildings being rezoned for multi-family residential), project site plans that are asking for exceptions to City code (oftentimes for MORE parking than what is needed - yuck!), or mixed use zoning projects that want to skip the retail part of the project.
These folks are architecture experts, landscape architects, a realtor and a resident or two. They provide important feedback on design elements for new construction and historic renovations. AND A BIGGIE: They review and approve all Tax Incremental Finance (TIF) agreements with developers.
This quasi-governmental board is the most wonky of them all. They provide conditional use permits for bars, restaurants, liquor stores, along with the restrictions that owners must follow. If operators get written up by zoning enforcement officers, this is where the appeals are heard, with the potential to shut a business down. Also lots of sign requests that require exception approval.
Plans for neighborhood traffic calming programs are approved here (speed humps, curb bump outs), Vision Zero efforts are shared, and sidewalk gaps are addressed. Lots of engaged residents with a goal of SAFETY.
